Amanda Palmer - Leeds United

That’s a screen cap from the video for Amanda Palmer‘s tune Leeds United.

(As an aside, that video was directed by sometime comic book writer Alex DeCampi, and I found out today that at least two of my online acquaintancesYou know, the people I know who I’ve never met IRL, and who live on another continent. are actually part of the audience in the video.)

Anyway, looking at that screen cap, do you see anything that shocks or upsets you?

Because apparently Amanda’s record company did.

Incredibly cool and beautiful singer Amanda Palmer (of Dresden Dolls fame) has been forced to search for a new record label after Roadrunner refused to promote her latest single, video and album. Why? Because she refused to let them remove shots of her “fat” belly from the video for Leeds United (see above), and is therefore “uncommercial”. This comes from a metal label where, I have it on good authority, “you can count the number of women on the fingers of one hand and most of the people on the label are decidedly chunky hairy dudes”.

Sometimes I think our entire society has Body dysmorphic disorder.

So that’s the finger to RoadRunner for thinking that Amanda’s belly is uncommercial, and devil horns to Amanda for telling them to get stuffed.

Update: The story in Amanda’s own words.
