(AP) Attorney General John Ashcroft and Commerce Secretary Don Evans resigned Tuesday, the first members of President Bush’s Cabinet to leave as he headed from re-election into his second term.
Ashcroft, in a five-page, handwritten letter to Bush, said, “The objective of securing the safety of Americans from crime and terror has been achieved.”
So I know these are famous last words, but let me tempt fate anyway: whoever it is, it can’t be worse.
Maybe they should replace him with a dead guy–I hear that’s worked out well in the past.
Do I even need to comment on the quote from the letter? Everything else aside, if that were true, shouldn’t the terror alert be back down to green?
Oh, and anyone have any guesses as to how many terrorists Ashcroft convicted?
