Bachelor Saturday kind of disappeared: I stretched out Saturday afternoon for a short nap, and then woke up at 2AM. Apparently I needed an 11 hour nap. I rattled around the house for a bit, watching a couple of decent flicks (The Big Empty which was weird but fun, and Layer Cake which I quite enjoyed) and then went back to sleep around 5AM.
Last night was Movie Night, with some friends coming over to check out some fine films. We watched the Criterion Down By Law, which is still great 20 years later. The DVD includes recordings of some phone calls between Jarmusch and the stars. Listening to Jarmusch talk to Tom Waits is interesting, but not as much fun as listening the Jim try to talk to Roberto Benigni–I say “try to” because he kind of gets lost in Roberto’s outpouring of energy. Fun stuff.
This was followed with a screening of the Reefer Madness musical (previously mentioned on this blog). Hilarious. And, includes a rhyme for “transubstantiate”. We may have to screen the original at some point. (Neve Campbell has some great legs, by the way. I had no idea.)
And, on the bachelor weekend beer sampling front: Rogue Mocha Porter is pretty damn good, and I’d rather drink it than the Chocolate Stout. Rogue Chipotle Ale didn’t thrill me, but it seemed to work for Ward. Flying Dog “In Heat Wheat” was pretty fine, for a wheat beer, but I’m still not really a fan of that wheat beer aftertaste. McAuslan Apricot Wheat, on the other hand, is pure goodness, and might be my new summer beer–a light fruit taste and no lingering wheat aftertaste. (I don’t normally put much stock in fruit beers, but McAuslan’s St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout is one of my favourite stouts, so I figured I’d give them a try.)
Still in the queue:
Flying Dog Road Dog Porter
Flying Dog Tire Bite Golden Ale
Rogue Old Crustacean Barleywine
