Since moving to the woods five years ago, my social schedule is a pale shadow of what it once was.
However, the next couple of weeks will have me back to the level I used to be at, and I’m not sure if I can handle it anymore, when combined with fatherhood and additional work responsibilities.
However, I’ll give it a try.
Tonight, of course, is the weekly HGPA Dealer’s Choice game. It’s looking like this will break up earlier than the usual 2 or 3 AM this week, so that’s good. If it ends early enough I might get a chance to watch Veronica Mars tonight instead of tomorrow night.
Tomorrow is my “off” night, although I will likely be having a meeting at 9PM with the Australians for work.
Thursday night is a book launch / exhibit.
That’s the book launch for Rebecca Kraatz‘s new collected House of Sugar, published through Hope Larson‘s Tulip Tree Press. Should be a good time.
Friday night I’ll probably be going to a Stolen Minks show:
I keep meaning to see them live, and Sarah is a big fan of the bass player, and I’ll know a lot of people there, so…
Saturday night I will be exhausted, since Trish has school all day, and a school dinner after, so I’m on Daddy duty from early in the morning until bed time. Sarah and I are hoping to get all our Christmas shopping done that day. If I’m really smart, I might arrange to have a friend or two over to watch Gotham that evening before I send it back to Zip.
The next busy night is the following Tuesday, when I have both poker night, and a show from my acquaintance Sean Jordan, a.k.a. Wordburglar. That’s also the first night Danny is in town, so I might also be doing something with him, or he might be going to those things with me.
Wednesday I may be resting up, since Thursday night is this year’s Drakemas. I have taken Friday off work (even though the Yanks won’t be working Thursday or Friday anyway) just in case I need to lie around the house and deal with veisalgia. A good part of this will probably take place at the Seahorse.
Friday night will see me (and probably many of the people from Thursday night) back at the Seahorse for Danny‘s Halifax show. Hopefully I am not damaged enough from Thursday to interfere with enjoying Friday.
Saturday I’ll be trekking over to Sackville to see the Danny show there, where I will also meet up with my friend, the Crake Doctoral Fellow. Heh.
There was a time when that kind of schedule would have been not even worth mentioning as a challenge, but that was back in the days when I didn’t have to get up at an unholy early hour every day. (Pre-parenting it was not uncommon for me to wake up at around 10AM on work days, and 1PM on the weekends. 8AM is now a weekday sleep-in for me.) We’ll see if I can still do it.
