I was going to write up something about the just passed fourth anniversary of the beginning of the U.S. war in Iraq, but I’ve decided I’m too tired. Maybe tomorrow.
Instead, I offer this quote, from Edmund Burke:
The use of force alone is but temporary. It may subdue for a moment; but it does not remove the necessity of subduing again: and a nation is not governed, which is perpetually to be conquered.
Ironically, the nation conquered, but only temporary subdued that Burke was talking about was America–the quote is from his second speech on conciliation with America.
