He’s not Stewart…

…but Rick Mercer is probably the funniest current events comedian we have here in Canada.

I got a chuckle out of his recent From The Desk of Stephen Harper bit.

Here’s one little bit:

4. Open and Accountable government. Yes the catch phrase open and accountable will not go away. We are prepared to use it every day and every night. To ensure an even more open government communications director Sandra Buckler will now assume her new position as head of the RCMP and Canada’s spy agency CSIS. Also we will cut funding to more museums.

Speaking of Harper, while I’m kind of tired of musicians with a social conscience lecturing uswell, actually just Bono, really–I’ve got a lot of time for Sir Bob, not least because of Diamond Smiles, I have to agree with Geldof’s comments at the G8 about how “A man called Stephen Harper came to Heiligendamm, but Canada stayed home.” Harper’s minority government really doesn’t reflect the broad Canadian values, and I’m glad that’s recognized outside of Canada. I’ll be even gladder once he’s out of power, of course.
