Robyn Hitchcock

This post is in honour of my old pal Roach, a real fegManiac, and my pal EBOC“of the Shire” who is about to have his first Robyn Hitchcock experience.

I’ve got about a half-dozen Hitchcock albums, mostly from the 80s and 90s. I think I might have had one or two before Roach started campaigning heavily in favour of Hitchcock, and advising me on others to buy. I really should get more–I’m not sure why I haven’t been more aggressive about it.

Last week I got a powerful urge to listen to A Skull, A Suitcase, and a Long Red Bottle Of Wine while at my poker game, and realized I didn’t have it on my iPod. In this era of carrying around 80Gb of music in my pocket, it’s always a shock to realize I can’t listen immediately to something I want to listen to.

So, today I’ve remembered to rip my RH cds, and have been listening to them all. (Actually, right now I’m working my way through the dozens of concerts up at archive.org.)

So now you get to share a little bit in this whimsy with me. Enjoy.

I like this bit from RH’s page at Wikipedia:

Hitchcock’s lyrics are an essential component of his work and tend to include surrealism, comedic songs, characterizations of English eccentrics and melancholy depictions of everyday life. His themes include what many psychologists view as the roots of modern neurosis – namely, death, sex and eating.
