Aside

I expect lots of things from webcomics, but I don’t usually expect to be stopped utterly in my tracks by a one-off strip. Damn.

Me & Julio, Day 8: Tragedy

There was, as you may have noted, no Day 7. Last night I didn’t get to explore any of my stash, since I dined with a friend, and he provided me with samples of Dragonslayer Imperial Stout from Middle Ages Brewing Company, Saranac‘s Black & Tan, and Dogfish Head‘s Palo Santo Marron–it was kind of an east coast night, with… Read more →

Lazy Post

Did you know I will be in Boston tomorrow and Tuesday? Did you know Amanda Palmer is playing at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston both of those nights? I’m just saying. She’s been doing videos on YouTube for the tracks from the recent album. Here’s the one that makes me smile the most: I love that it’s dedicated to… Read more →

Anticipation

I may have made my generally negative feelings on adaptations of certain works to the big screen known in the past. This occurred to me at the Bond flick tonight, both in the context of the movie (which was fine on its own, and is best not considered in relation to the story it’s named for) and in the context… Read more →

I’m just saying

This time last week, I had no idea that tonight I would see the new James Bond movie with a Russian rocket scientist. Or that I would go with a bunch of Australians to “The Outback” for dinner. This is possibly the most hilarious thing I’ve done in a while. Their reaction to the notion of “Alice Springs Chicken” was… Read more →

Me & Julio, Part 5: Wet Hops

Tonight’s another night with just a single sampling (albeit a 24oz sampling), this time of a “wet hop” ale that came highly recommended by a pal at the office, Sierra Nevada Harvest (the “12th release” or 2008 edition). What’s a “wet hop” ale, you might ask? (Well, I did…) These hops are harvested and shipped as “wet” un-dried hops—the same… Read more →

Aside

Well, I guess I’m done shopping at Home Depot. How will I survive with only Piercy’s, Kent, Rona, and dozens of smaller stores?

Aside

And, like clockwork, the CRTC comes out with another decision that favours corporations over the public. What do you expect when the regulatory body is made up of former corporate insiders?

Me & Julio: Day 3, Fruit

Today’s work session ends and I jump into my car and drive to the Whole Foods to pick up some fruit, both because I need fresh fruit every day or I go weird, and because I have plans for doing some fruit-themed explorations in my hotel fridge. When I get back to the hotel, I eat a bunch of fresh… Read more →

A message for some Californians

We’ve had it in place for several years now, and you know somehow the fabric of civilization has not disintegrated. And, you know, I still haven’t heard any argument against gay marriage that isn’t premised on either “God said so” or “Gays are icky” or both. Also, the best quote I read on this subject today: “I’m waiting for an… Read more →

Aside

The details of the story might not be all I am hoping for, but seeing a headline that says “Cheney and Gonzales Indicted for Prisoner Abuse” is certainly a step in the right direction. Let’s hope it’s one of the first pebbles in an avalanche.
